Purification and Identification of the Antistiffness Factor.

Abstract
A combination of counter-current distribution and infra-red and ultra-violet spectroscopy was applied successfully to concentrates of sugar cane wax for the isolation and partial purification of the guinea pig antistiffness factor. The infra-red spectrum of the purified material resembled that of stigmasterol, and highly purified material obtained from another laboratory, gave an infra-red spectrum completely superimposable with that of stigmasterol.
