S-process calculations in thermal pulses: a word of caution

Abstract

The s‐process nucleosynthesis resulting from the ingestion of 13C in a thermal pulse of a solar‐metallicity 2.5M⊙ star is computed with due consideration of the feedback of the s‐process energetics on the stellar model. It is shown that the pulse structure along with the s‐process predictions are dramatically affected by this feedback. The common practice of neglecting this effect may thus lead to erroneous results, and must be abandoned.
