Ion-Bernstein-Wave Heating in the JIPPT-II-U Tokamak Plasma

Abstract
Ion-Bernstein-wave heating is investigated in the JIPPT-II-U tokamak plasma, n¯e1.5×1013 cm3, Te0700 eV, and Ti0300 eV for Prf100 kW. When the 32ΩH layer is placed near the plasma minor axis, the bulk-hydrogen-ion temperature shows a significant rise, ΔTi<~700 eV and ΔTi<~300 eV. The ion-heating dependence on the magnetic field and rf power suggests a presence of a direct bulk-hydrogen heating mechanism at ω32ΩH.
