Abstract
Research reports containing results on enzymology in relation to both experimental and clinical arteriosclerosis are reviewed. Emphasis is especially placed on the arterial wall as a metabolically active organ and its enzymatic deviations with aging and arteriosclerosis presented. On the basis of the numerous reports on such deviations and also for theoretic reasons metabolic enzyme deficiencies deserve urgent consideration as possible basic cause(s) of arteriosclerosis. Observations on 4 patients with arteriosclerotic diseases who receive a relatively long-term treatment with a preparation of oxidative enzymes (lipoxidase complex, amino acid oxidase complex and tyrosinase) are reported. In each patient there was suggestion that the preparation may have been effective, with direct dissolution of the arteriosclerotic lesions in the coronary arteries. Keywords
