Abstract
Rectilinear locomotion in snakes is accomplished by means of muscles connecting the ribs to the skin, as well as by the action of cutaneous muscles. Contrary to the statements that "active movement of the ribs" is involved, the ribs remain stationary with reference to the vertebral column. 4 principal types of snake locomotion may be designated as follows: horizontal undula-tory, concertina, rectilinear, and sidewinding. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
