Abstract
Presentation of Case First admission. A 40-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of a pericardial effusion.She was well until eight days previously, when she had an attack of sharp anterior chest pain that was aggravated by respiration and was relieved by sitting up and by leaning forward. Six days before admission she entered another hospital, where fever, cardiomegaly and a pericardial friction rub were found. An electrocardiogram showed diffuse inversion of the T waves and premature ventricular contractions. An x-ray film of the chest confirmed enlargement of the heart.
