Abstract
Psychiatric research and investigation are, probably more than any other medical discipline, characterized by a tendency to a split between different approaches. This is due to the fact that the scientific frame of reference, the knowledge and training necessary for separate treatment methods differ radically. Better integration of the different treatment methods, according to the needs of our patients, is needed. We illustrate the different theoretical models with the help of the term «interests of knowledge», developed by Habermas. Special attention is directed towards the indications of family therapy and individual therapy. According to the authors the distinction between them depends on the situation of the dynamic core of the therapeutic challenge in either the intrapsychic or interactional sphere. Keywords
