The Effect of Some Antibiotic Substances on the Germination of the Conidia of Polyporus annosus Fr..

Abstract
Germination of the conidia of the root-rot fungus P. annosus was inhibited by HgCl2 and CUSO4 but phenol and Na-pentachlorophenate had little effect. Of 18 fungal antibiotics tested, gladiolic acid, mycophenolic acid and virldln were very effective, and the effect was greater at pH 3.6 than pH 5. None of the 4 bacterial antibiotics tested was as effective as the above 3 fungal antibiotics. Plnosylvln, obtained from pine heartwood but not from spruce, effectively inhibited germination.
