Abstract
A previous analysis for a line source on a homogeneous half‐space model of the earth is extended to allow for the presence of stratification. The formal integral solution is reduced to a form suitable for numerical integration. Also, a number of special cases and limiting forms are considered. It is shown that the subsurface field has a structure that can be significantly modified when the half‐space is no longer homogeneous. The results have application to the design of electromagnetic techniques in mine rescue operations. Keywords
