Abstract
SUMMARY Two rubber bougies were inserted between the uterine wall and the foetal membranes in each of six normal women in mid-pregnancy to induce abortion, and the changes in uterine activity were recorded. Significant uterine contractions were noted within 33 hr. and increased gradually, resulting in all cases in abortion within 45 hr. The excretion of oestriol and pregnanediol in 6 hr. urine collections did not change significantly during the treatment, and the placenta and foetal membranes when delivered did not show any notable histological changes. Every foetus was alive on delivery.
