Analysis of Methyl Fluorosilanes from Methypolysiloxanes by Gas Chromatography

Abstract
A gas Chromatographic method has been developed for determining the composition (relative amounts of Me3-Si-, Me2Si=, and MeSi≡ groups; of methylsiloxane polymers. The polymers which cannot be analyzed as such, are depolymerized to methylfluorosilane monomers with boron trifluoride diethyl etherate in an enclosed system. The methylfluorosilane reaction products are then analyzed by gas chromatography. The procedure is modified for siloxanes containing silanic hydrogen.
