Abstract
To the Editor: In the section of her article devoted to pregnancy in renal transplant recipients (March 28 issue), Dr. Hou claims that risks to the fetus from immunosuppressive therapy are small.1 No increased incidence of birth defects has been found in children born to mothers who have received transplants.2,3 However, fetal risk is not limited to congenital abnormalities. We followed fetal growth during 20 pregnancies in 18 transplant recipients at our center and compared it with that of a control population (more than 5000 pregnancies) from the same hospital.
