Abstract
1. The behavior of a single bacterial cell toward gentian violet differs fundamentally from that of a small group of cells (thirty). 2. The explanation of this phenomenon is not purely quantitative; thirty cells accomplish much more than thirty times what one cell can accomplish.Keywords
