Abstract
The interaction of fosfomycin with different antibiotics was studied using the plate chequer-board method. The following bacteria were tested: Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus sp., Escherichia coli, indole (+) Proteus, Klebsiella sp., Enterobacter cloacae, Serratia marcescens, Salmonella sp. and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In every case favorable interaction was observed, especially with β-lactam and aminoglycosides antibiotics, chloramphenicol, rifamycin, lincomycin and erythromycin. We also have attempted to confirm in vivo, the favorable in vitro interaction observed between fosfomycin and gentamicin or fosfomycin and carbenicillin against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The results showed an important reduction of the ED-50's of the antibiotic combinations, as compared with the ED-50's of the respective antibiotics administered separately. There were also significant differences in the percentages of survival. Keywords
