Abstract
The hæmatological parameters in 280 apparently healthy people, 20 of each sex from each decade, were measured to establish a “normal” range. The parameters included hæmoglobin estimation, PCV, erythrocyte count, MCV, MCH, MCHC, number of leucocytes, ESR, and plasma viscosity. The 2SD range proved to be a little wider than that previously used in this laboratory. The ESR was raised in a number of elderly people, and the results suggested that a larger sample would be required to determine the “normal” range for this parameter. The method of selection was thought to have certain advantages over the establishment of a normal range from the results of population surveys. Keywords
