Abstract
We describe a modular detector designed primarily for macro-molecular x-ray crystallography experiments which use a rotating-anode x-ray source. The module consists of a fiber optic demagnifying taper with a phosphor x-ray converter deposited on the large end of the taper and a CCD bonded to the small end. Two or more modules can be used together to increase the total detector area. The detector components are chosen to optimize data-collection efficiency while keeping the overall cost relatively low and the reliability high. Performance measurements for a prototype detector of this design are presented. Keywords
