Abstract
Bacteriophages PRD1 and PR4 belong to a group of lipid-containing viruses which lyse bacteria harboring any drug resistance plasmid within the incompatibility group P-1. The lipid containing virions were shown by a modified EM technique to attache to the tips of pili determined by P-1 plasmids of Escherichia coli and Salmonella Typhimurium. The plasmids then retract into the cell pulling the virions to the surface where DNA penetration is initiated. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
