Interpretation of Genetic Test Results for Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer

Abstract
Genetic testing for cancer susceptibility is evolving from a research to a clinical service model. In an effort to guide this transition, the American Society of Clinical Oncology has recommended that clinical predisposition testing be offered when (1) the prior probability of a positive result is high because of a strong family history of cancer or very early age of onset of cancer, (2) the test can be adequately interpreted, and (3) the results will influence medical management of the patient or a family member.1
