A pilot study whose purpose was "to examine methods for a larger study" was presented as a substantive study that showed an association between salicylates and Reye's syndrome. Because of its limited purpose, the pilot study was not designed to test the hypothesis that salicylates are associated with Reye's syndrome, and it did not do so. It is inappropriate to draw substantive epidemiologic conclusions from such a study of methods. The Aspirin Foundation has reviewed the raw data from the pilot study and . . .Keywords
