Abstract
Techniques have been developed for making replicas, suitable for examination in the electron microscope, of the surface of the wool fiber without subjecting the fiber to heat or pressure. Electron micrographs are reproduced to illustrate the appearance of normal wool fibers and of fibers subjected to various chemical and mechanical treatments. The results obtained support the view that the scales consist of a smooth layer overlying a more resistant furrowed structure. Certain other features of the scales, including a peculiar "fringed" edge, are also noted. Keywords
