Abstract
Newcastle disease virus was modified by serial passage in tissue culture using minced chicken embryos. The modified virus administered intramuscularly to over 20,000 chickens of all ages produced an immunity against the disease without producing any symptoms. Vaccinated chickens did not transmit the infection to susceptible pen mates. Administration of the modified virus to birds during the acute phase of reactions following infectious bronchitis vaccination or with chronic respiratory disease did not increase the severity of the respiratory disease. The modified virus can be propagated on HeLa cells to produce a vaccine for poultry. Keywords
