Abstract
Fragments of molluscan shells make up more than 50 percent of marine foraminifer-bearing shelly sands from two lagoonal localities near a fringing reef in Saint-Vincent bay, New Caledonia. The most abundant foraminifer is Marginopora vertebralis. Fragments of algae and corals together constitute only about 20 percent, despite proximity to the reef.
