Abstract
It is shown that there are considerable uncertainties in the determination of the QCD running coupling constant αs, using the finite energy sum rule and the operator product expansion in the analysis of the semileptonic τ decay. The usual claim of a good agreement with the value of αs determined from the data from CERN LEP could be accidental due to the special value of the physical τ mass. A new sum rule is derived to test strong assumptions made in the analysis of τ decay. Keywords
