Abstract
Specific antisera to mouse light chains and to each mouse Ig subclass were radiolabeled with 125I and used to detect surface Ig determinants on mouse lymphocytes by autoradiography. Light chain determinants were demonstrated on 34%, 29%, 18% and 4% of the lymphocytes in blood, spleen, lymph node and thymus, respectively. The total percentage of cells possessing heavy chain specificities in blood, spleen and lymph node agreed with that of cells bearing light chain determinants, suggesting that individual lymphocytes are restricted to one Ig subclass. Depletion of thymusdependent lymphocytes by thymectomy and anti-lymphocyte serum produced marked increase in the percentage of cells bearing surface Ig, suggesting that these cells belong to the thymus-independent population of lymphocytes. Keywords
