Abstract
The effect of varying moisture tensions on heat transfer and electrical resistance in plaster of paris blocks was studied. The pressure plate apparatus of Richards was used to obtain the various moisture tensions. The electrical resistance in plaster of paris blocks increased with increases in moisture tension from 0 to 15 atmospheres. There was considerable change in the heat transfer in the plaster of paris blocks with increasing tension as long as there was an appreciable loss of water with increasing tensions. There was practically no loss of water in plaster of paris above 4 atmospheres tension. Likewise, there was little change in heat transfer above 4 atmospheres tension. Calibration curves are given relating moisture tension to electrical resistance and heat transfer in plaster of paris blocks. A desorption curve is given for plaster of paris. Errors and difficulties encountered in making these studies are enumerated. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
