Abstract
The development rates of corn borer larvae, Ostrinia nubilalis (Hübn.), feeding on corn plants and meridic diet under greenhouse conditions were compared. Regression analysis of the data showed that the diet-reared borers developed faster than the corn-reared borers while exposed to the same number of degree days. Explanations for the difference between the two rearing treatments. the models used in the analysis, and the practical implications of the results for laboratory research of the corn borer and its parasitoids are discussed.
