Abstract
In 15 dogs receiving cigarette smoke and histamine in beeswax, 11 or 73% developed gastroduodenal ulcerations or erosions in 5 days. No ulcers or erosions occurred in control groups on histamine or smoke alone. Denicotinized cigarettes provoked a lower incidence of ulcer-erosion than ordinary cigarettes. The secretory response of total gastric pouches in dogs was either unaffected or slightly decreased by the inhalation of cigarette smoke. Keywords
