Abstract
In this paper the authors cite examples of problems experienced in conducting psychotherapy in a highly prejudiced societal context—South Africa. The conclusion is drawn that not enough attention is paid to sociopolitical exigencies in the formulation of the goals of therapy and the role of the psychotherapist.Keywords
