Abstract
CHOLESTYRAMINE has been shown to relieve pruritus in adults with various forms of partially obstructive liver disease1 , 2 through reduction of serum bile acids. The effect of this resin on an infant with intrahepatic biliary atresia has been studied for two and a half years. A reduction of serum bile acids and serum bilirubin has been repeatedly observed after administration of cholestyramine.Materials and MethodsCholestyramine,∥ a chloride salt of a strongly basic polystyrene anion-exchange resin, containing quaternary ammonium groups, was given in powder form, mixed with applesauce or other fruit. Total daily amount varied between 6.7 and 10.0 gm. Serum . . .Keywords
