Abstract
Nadai's method for determining the shear stresses in solid cylindrical specimens subjected to torsional loads is extended to give the shear stresses in tubular specimens. A simple approximation to this solution is also proposed. Nadai's method may also be extended to anlyse the surface stresses of tubular specimens under combined axial and torsional loads. Keywords
