Abstract
The pressure dependence of the Szigeti effective ionic charge of some rock salt, cesium chloride, and zinc-blende type crystals is evaluated from the pressure dependence of their long-wavelength optic phonon frequencies and the high- and low-frequency dielectric constants. Comparison is made with values predicted by indirect methods. Keywords
