Presence of the Long-Acting Thyroid Stimulator in Serum in Mongolism Without Hyperthyroidism

Abstract
LATS was detected in the sera of 4 mongoloid females without hyperthyroidism. Three of the 4 patients had minimal thyroid enlargement and 1 of these had excessive eye protrusion by exophthalmometry. The patients have remained euthyroid after 14 to 19 months of observation. The explanation for this finding is obscure but might reasonably be sought by study of the immune mechanism in mongo-llsm.
