Abstract
Certain kinds of irrigation development projects in hot climates have important adverse implications for human health. This article reviews aspects of such projects in relation to their effects on vector-borne disease; the specific diseases associated with these developments are discussed and tabulated. It introduces the concept of environmental management for disease control and this is discussed in relation to the various phases of project planning and establishment. It concludes by making recommendations for action to be taken towards ensuring the general acceptance and implementation of such techniques. Keywords
