Abstract
Bile pigments in the stools of 90 newborn infants was determined using a modification of ascending chromatography described by Schachter. Generally free bilirubin was found in the meconium. Both conjugated and free bilirubins appeared in the stools of newborn and older breast-fed infants regulary in approximately equal amounts. In the stools of infants on cow''s milk diet bilirubin disappeared sooner than in breast-fed infants or only 1 pigment was found more frequently. Keywords
