Observation of Natural-Parity Exchange in $ρ^{0}$ Production

Abstract

In a study of

π^{-} p \to ρ^{0} n

and

π^{+} n \to ρ^{0} p

at 7

\frac{GeV}{c}

we observe a distinct change in the

π π

angular distribution for

| t_{np} | >~ 0.3 {(\frac{GeV}{c})}^{2}

. Here there is a strong

{sin}^{2} θ {sin}^{2} ϕ

term in the decay angular distribution which is indicative of natural-parity exchange. The observed effects are attributed to

A_{2}

exchange.
