The Use of the Soil Catena Concept in the Study of the Ecology of the Wormley Woods, Hertfordshire

Abstract
A systematic analysis of woodland vegetation is made in terms of the local soil catena, and areas where vegetation has been modified are quickly determined. The example selected shows mixed catena, with basic soils on upper slopes and valley bottoms and acid soils on valley sides. Related vegetation shows variations correlated with cartographic evidence of past conditions.
