Abstract
The Gulf crisis began when Iraq invaded Kuwait on August 2, 1990. Trade sanctions against Iraq were rapidly instituted. During the six-week war beginning on January 16, 1991, over 120,000 allied sorties were carried out. The massive bombing and ground war resulted in Iraq's capitulation, followed by widespread civil revolt in the country. These uprisings, which caused the displacement of an estimated 2 million people, were suppressed in March and April 1991.Keywords
