Abstract
Death during pregnancy and delivery is one of the leading causes of death among women in the developing countries. A review of literature, and a comparison of the decline of the maternal mortality in Sweden, concludes that maternal mortality is a sensitive socioeconomic index of health in the society, but also that this death cause is one of the few that it is really possible to prevent by the impact of medical services-antenatal and delivery care. Keywords
