Abstract
Of 1790 alcohol-related acts of violence reported to the Hamilton-Wentworth (Ontario) [Canada] regional police between Nov. 1976-Oct. 1977, most (1301) were marital or other common assaults. Of the marital assaults, 90% occurred in a private residence, usually after the offender or both spouses had been drinking. The other assaults studied, excluding assault of a police offer, were likely to occur anywhere and to involve a victim who had been drinking.
