Abstract
The contrast media used in radiography are the most commonly encountered substances which artifactually increase the concentration of protein-bound iodine (PBI) in serum. The determination of PBI, probably the most accurate test of thyroid function, may be affected by administration of these media, and this study was conducted to determine the length of time that Orabilex, a constrast medium, increases the level of PBI and total iodine in the serum of normal persons. Orabilex artifactually increased the concentration for a maximum of 59 days in 3 normal men.
