Abstract
Although sickle cell anemia rarely presents with clinical manifestations in the newborn period, it should be considered a possible cause of unexplained early jaundice in black newborn infants. If sickle cell disease is suspected, sickle cell preparation and hemoglobin electrophoresis of the infant and of both parents should be carried out. Keywords
