Abstract
Medroxyprogesterone (oral or im) administered to normal adult males produced a decrease in the plasma levels of testosterone (T) but little or no change in those of androstenedione (Δ). This therapy did not modify significantly the metabolic clearance rates of T and Δ. Therefore, the blood production rates of these androgens reflected directly the changes in plasma concentrations of T and Δ. Four boys, 3–5 yr of age, with idiopathic sexual precocity had plasma concentrations of T and Δ in the range observed for normal adult males. Administration of medroxyprogesterone (im) decreased the plasma T concentration of 3 of the boys but had no effect on the fourth subject. This therapy did not modify plasma Δ concentration of the patients. Keywords
