Abstract
The present account deals with the embryology of some bopyrid isopods, notably Bopyroides hippolytes, Hemiarthrus abdominalis, and Pseudione crenulata. The material was collected partly in the vicinity of the Biological Station, Espegrend, Norway, partly in the waters of the San Juan archipelago, Washington, U.S.A. The segmentation of the egg, the differentiation of the germ layers, and the development of some organ systems is described. The latter include the development of the mesodermal material, the digestive and nervous systems, and some comments are made also on the genital rudiments. An extensive review of previous work is given. The discussion is mainly restricted to isopod conditions.
