Abstract
This study explored the health promotion experiences of 10 Euro-American advanced practice nurses who provided care in rural settings to predominantly African American families. Relational themes that emerged from the discussions of the participants were authentic connecting, unconditional help giving, and openness to knowing. The constitutive pattern that emerged across all the texts was care as uncovering healing. The nurses' knowledge or lack of knowledge about differences in cultural health beliefs and practices was in the background, whereas the relationship was the contextual core of the experience that transcended the knowledge of differences. Keywords
