Inelastic scattering of 162-MeV pions byN14

Abstract
The inelastic scattering of 162-MeV pions by N14 has been studied over the angular range 35° to 115° in the laboratory system. The data were analyzed with a model which incorporates shell model wave functions into a distorted wave impulse approximation. Reduced transition probabilities obtained for a number of low-lying states are compared to previous data to validate the model. Among new assignments and shell model descriptions presented for several higher excited states is an assignment for the yrast 5 state.
