Intracranial Suppuration Secondary to Trauma

Abstract
INTRACRANIAL suppuration is a potential complication of infection caused byNocardia asteroides. When the central nervous system is involved by this process, hematogenous dissemination from a pulmonary focus is assumed to have occurred, although this is not always possible to prove. Traumatic nocardial infection has been reported but is extremely unusual. This is a case report of a patient who sustained an injury to the head that eventually led to an infection caused byNocardia asteroides. Report of a Case A 36-year-old, healthy construction worker was admitted to The Fairfax Hospital on Dec 26, 1972, because of an injury sustained at work when he was struck in the face by a metal wedge. He suffered a trimallar fracture on the left side and had violation of the left maxillary and ethmoidal sinuses.
