Abstract
Dean, W. R. J. 1977. Population, diet and the annual cycle of the Laughing Dove at Barberspan. 1. Life expectancy and survival estimates. Ostrich Suppl. 12:102–107. Laughing Doves Streptopelia senegalensis captured and recaptured at Barberspan Nature Reserve have a life expectancy of 0,83 years during the first year after ringing and a further 1,5 years during the second year. Juveniles can expect to live a further 1,04 years during the first year and a further 0,91 years during the second year. Productivity calculated by means of a mathematical model using the survival rates for first, second and third year birds suggests that each pair of Laughing Doves must produce 8,0 young in 1,5 years to keep the population stable. Keywords
