Arteriovenous Fistula of the Superior Mesenteric Vessels after a Gunshot Wound

Abstract
FISTULAS between arteries and portal veins are uncommon. Reported in the literature are 5 such cases of the hepatic artery and portal veins,1 2 3 4 5 8 of the splenic artery and vein6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 and 3 of mesenteric arteries and veins.14 15 16 This report describes the first known case of an arteriovenous fistula of the superior mesenteric vessels caused by a bullet wound.Case ReportJ.G., a 22-year-old man, was seen in another hospital on October 19, 1958, 8 months before death, which was due to a single 0.22-caliber bullet wound of the abdomen.
