Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore behavioral and emotional responses during the divorce process. A sample of 252 men and women were interviewed about the traumas and advantages associated with the stages of divorce they had already experienced. The results only partially substantiate the finding by Goode that the final separation is perceived as most traumatic. The large number of respondents who reported that the most traumatic experiences occur after, and not before, the decision to divorce emphasizes the problems involved in the act of divorce; however, approximately half of the subjects reported that they were currently functioning well. Keywords
