Screening Wheat Varieties and Hybrids for Resistance to the Greenbug1

Abstract
A method was devised to screen over 2000 wheat strains for resistance to Toxoptera graminum. Short rows were planted in greenhouse flats and infested in 2-leaf stage. Each row was classified as to degree of susceptibility. Most strains were more susceptible than Pawnee. About 4% appeared to carry some resistance. F2 populations from crosses between susceptible and resistant parents were also studied. Dickinson sel., the resistant parent, may carry a single recessive factor for resistance.
